My Sabbatical

I love serving as the Campus Pastor here at Rock Bridge! This is a place that values and takes care of the staff. In fact, after 7 years of service, full-time Pastoral level staff qualify for a sabbatical. It’s a great way to invest in, value, reward, and encourage longevity with our team.  I know the word “Sabbatical” looks a lot like a “vacation.” Sabbath, of course, means to stop working, pause or to take a break. But to Sabbath means more than stopping all my Campus Pastor duties. It...

Monday Ministry Honor

It seems these days we only tend to hear about people in ministry who are "Statistics in ministry" Meaning they are no longer serving in ministry due to an affair, addiction, personal issues or just burnt out, etc… What I do on Mondays is highlight one of my friends who is/has served the ministry faithfully. And honor the individual/couple who are faithful to the calling. Someone you might never hear about but is doing great things for the kingdom! Today, I would like to honor a good...

Volunteers – YOU MATTER!

Easter is the most important week on our calendar. It’s the easiest week to get folks to come to church, that’s why we push invites so hard. It’s also one of the highest attended weekends of the year. However, attendance is not our goal. Granted, it is exciting to run out of seats. This Easter, join me in prayer that we will do more than just attract people to our church and have them walking away saying “that church is great.” We want people to walk away having had an encounter with an...

Now Hiring – Student Pastor!

The Best Is Yet To Come! January 13th, 2013 Rock Bridge Ringgold had our first service here as a campus. That night Rock Bridge Student Ministry kicked off. It’s been an incredible 6 years of growth with hundreds of students connecting to life in Christ! We quickly hired a Student Pastor, however a short time after taking the job he stepped away due to some tragic personal events.  So to fill a gap I stepped into the role of Student Pastor for what was supposed to be a short transitional...

Be Part Of The Movement!

The growth of any church is determined by the mindset of the people. If we have an attitude of pride, apathy, laziness, negativity or critical attitude, we will never be all that God wants us to be. I believe that’s why God’s favor has been on Rock Bridge Ringgold for the last 6 years, we don’t have this kind of attitude!  Anytime the ask is put out you all respond with amazing understanding and willingness to do “whatever it takes” to connect people to life in Christ! As I shared in church…...

Relentless Love Of God

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEJnePjJZaM&w=560&h=315] So often we sings songs never taking a moment to reflect on what those songs are really saying. I Know I'm guilty of doing this so many times.. I like the beat, melody, sound etc.... Last night at our ( Rock Bridge Ringgold  ) night of worship we sang a song that I couldn't sing. I mean I couldn't make my mouth make a sound... I just stood there captivated by the words of the song. A song taken straight from scripture....

What's on your Christmas List?

theparentcue.org is one of my favorite blogs/websites that I visit daily. Wanted to share this one with you today written by Mike Tiemann. You probably have lots of vivid memories that come to mind when you remember celebrating Christmas as a kid. ● Bundling up in the car to look at the neighbors’ lights. ● Decorating the tree while listening to Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole. ● Making Christmas sugar cookies with Grandma . . . and leaving enough icing so you can lick the bowl. ● Drinking hot...

Surrounded-This is how I fight my battles.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBl84oZxnJ4&w=560&h=315] A few months ago I’m on the treadmill getting my cardio in and I can see a person coming up next to me. To be honest I was telling myself not to turn and look because I had just hit my stride and really didn’t want to mess it up. But, sure enough she tap’s me on the shoulder. So I slow it down to a brisk walk, take my earbuds out and she says… “Hey, You are JC Right? This might be a little strange but I’ve been praying...

Life with 6 kids.

To be honest we can't believe we have 6 kids either! There are many times when we say "can you believe we have 6 kids"! This was never a goal or dream for that matter... When we got married 9 years ago we talked about having kids and both agreed we wanted a "big" family. "Big" being 3 or 4 kids.... Never thought 6 would be what we ended up with! But we wouldn't have it any other way! When people hear that I have six kids, the reaction is usually entertaining. But we just celebrate how awesome...

The Saga Day 1.

Click here January 02, 2018  to see "The Coffee Break Collective" website where this was posted by Chris Morrow. Introductions are tough and "breaking the ice" seems like a fitting analogy for this situation, since any ice we stand on would for sure break. We are fat. Not phat, not big-boned, we don't have a thyroid issue, and heck, we aren't even a little chubby. Sugar-coating the word "fat" does the same thing as literally sugar-coating everything, it just worsens your health (mentally and...

Lets get honest… I failed.

Folks, let me be as honest as I know how here—I failed. I started out last year on this plan to get healthy and I'm sitting here a year later only 20 pounds lighter than I was last year at this time... I started at 325 and today I'm at 305. 20 pounds in 356 days... It's just sheer lazy. I'm guilty and it's time to change that.  There isn’t a day that goes by without me thinking about my weight.  I wrestle with this more than anyone would ever know. I have come to the conclusion that I have a...

First time watching Star Wars…

35 years old and I've never watched Star Wars until this weekend. After so much confusing conversation with Star Wars enthusiast over what order to watch the movies in. My Boys and I just finished Star Wars IV, V, VI... For whatever reason I didn't watch these films growing up. I didn't really watch many films to be honest. I played outside a lot and loved sports more than anything. I would rather throw a baseball up against the house, (breaking many window on our house) riding a go-cart frame...

4 Types of Friends Every Pastor Needs

Ike Reighard Pastors may be the most well-known, loneliest men on the face of the earth. Friendship is a vital part of New Testament ministry and leadership. Without quality, biblical friendships, we are modeling a flawed Christian lifestyle for our church members. Yet, for many, the difficulties of pastoral friendships outweigh the benefits. Most pastors find themselves in an unhealthy relationship where their wife is their only friend and counselor. If a pastor continues to project his...

REFLECTIONS ON HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

REFLECTIONS ON HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL| BY RICK BARTLETT Rick's Twitter I have spent a career working with high school students in a variety of capacities: teacher, youth pastor, camp director- and now as a parent. For the past couple weeks, I have been following the story from Steubenville, Ohio on the two young men who have been convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl. The news article I read talked about the arrogance that was displayed by the boys and their friends. According to the ARTICLE,...

The Perfect Youth Ministry Volunteer

Youth Pastor, Chris Dortch, in North Carolina recently posted on his church's blog looking for volunteers. Here's what he's looking for — sounds pretty good to us. What would the “perfect” youth ministry volunteer look like?  I think I have an answer, but first let’s address some of the myths. Myth #1 “You’ve got to be cool.” Let’s face it, we probably weren’t that cool in high school and we’re certainly not cool as adults.  Students don’t need someone to be cool, they need authenticity.  If...
